Data Strategy and Business Intelligence Manager

Foley Hoag seeks a Data Strategy and Business Intelligence Manager (“Manager”) to lead the design, development, and maintenance of our enterprise data warehouse. This role will drive the creation, scalability, and evolution of foundational datasets that power analytics, reporting, and business intelligence across the firm. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to align data strategy with business objectives at a leading international law firm, fostering a data-driven culture and establishing analytics as a center of excellence at our firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL, data modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools such as Power BI and SSRS. The successful candidate will possess a strategic mindset, a passion for continuous improvement, and the ability to think creatively to enhance data solutions. While prior experience in a law firm or familiarity with legal-specific technologies is a plus, it is not required.

Currently, this role requires onsite presence in our Boston office three days per week. Specific days in the office will be determined by your supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of the firm’s enterprise data warehouse, acting as its primary architect and engineer.
  • Oversee data integration and transformation processes to ensure accurate, reliable, and scalable data solutions.
  • Support the integration of various data systems into a unified analytics platform to improve efficiency and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Partner with stakeholders across departments to identify business intelligence needs and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies in collaboration with Information Security.
  • Design, develop, and optimize business intelligence dashboards and reports using Power BI and SSRS.
  • Build and maintain shared semantic models with complex security integrations, ensuring accessibility for both technical and non-technical users.
  • Develop data models to support financial reporting, projections, and business-critical decision-making.
  • Create and maintain stakeholder-facing reports and the underlying data pipelines.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data modeling, warehousing, and reporting best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance data processes and implement best practices for data management and reporting.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in business intelligence.
  • Contribute to the development of warehouse strategies and roadmaps, including future migration to the cloud.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data strategy, business intelligence, or data analytics.
  • Expertise in SQL, and knowledge of data pipelines and common ETL processes.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and optimizing business intelligence dashboards and reporting solutions (Power BI, SSRS, or similar tools).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data transformation, and database management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex data challenges into clear actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.

Compensation range is $111,000 to $160,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
