Summary

Michigan Tech’s Career Services partners with hundreds of companies annually to connect our talented Huskies with exciting pathways into the workforce. The Senior Career Data and Technology Specialist leads the office’s efforts in sourcing, implementing, and maintaining data and technological resources that support and enhance the department; train and develop university faculty/staff and employers on new technologies; analyze data and construct reports to improve understanding of employer hiring trends and University needs.
Collaboration with administrative and academic units, the Enterprise and senior design programs, and other corporate engagement professionals across campus calls for a tech-savvy, data-informed, and energetic teammate. The senior specialist will possess these characteristics and will help the Michigan Tech Career Services office promote and provide digital platforms and data-driven reports that are critical for student success and university reputation.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Bachelor’s degree in business, management of information systems, computer science, or a combination of military, education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
Required Experience
● Five or more years of professional work experience in higher education
● Five or more years of experience with Handshake or other related enterprise-level platforms
● Three or more years of experience developing complex business, intelligence reports, databases, and dashboards
● Three or more years of professional work experience using SQL-based relational databases
● Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced features of spreadsheets to analyze, interpret, and present data
● Demonstrated experience with program assessment and evaluation
Desirable Education and/or Experience
● Experience working in a higher education department
● Experience at a STEM-related institution of higher education

● Ability to document steps in a process and make technology recommendations to improve the process.

● Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
● Ability to understand business requirements and translate the requirements into technical solutions.
● Ability to function effectively and make sound decisions in stressful and crisis situations.
● Ability to handle multiple projects, services, activities, etc. in a timely and professional manner in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
● Ability to be flexible, diplomatic, patient, service-driven, and a self-starter.
● Ability to work independently under limited supervision and in teams.

● Driving personal or university vehicles or golf-cart during special events to transport materials and supplies to events
● Ability to work evening and weekend hours based on operational need.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
● Understanding of both front and back-end code development
● Knowledge of scripting or low-code/no-code tools for RPA development.
● Experience with program databases or software programs used to track, monitor, and report services to students.
