Our Business Group is a leader in wireless mobility networks and associated services. With more than 3,500 patent families essential for 5G we have a strong 5G portfolio and are a front runner in open and virtualized radio access networks (O-RAN and vRAN). 

 

You will join the MN RAN Business Unit and will enjoy our culture of innovation, openness, discipline, simplicity, accountability, and profit mindset. Your future team is developing Nokia 5G mainstream radio technology products and solutions including cross-technology responsibility (Multi-Radio Access Technology). A flawless execution of system programs, including network management and optimisation, is among your unit's top priority. 

 

We're looking for a software development trainee to strengthen our team of more than 100 highly experienced mobile network R&D people in Espoo. Our team is developing and maintaining software for Nokia 5G base station control plane area. 

 

The 5G Control plane is responsible for controlling and maintaining user equipment (UE) connection to core radio network. That covers call setup, mobility (handover control inside 5G and between 5G and LTE radio networks) and call release by handling signalling towards the UE and the core network. As part of that, the 5G Control Plane is also responsible for configuring 5G base station lower layers triggered by O&M. 

 

As a part of our team, your responsibility area would be software development and testing of new features and functionalities in the 5G control plane area, as well as contributing to end to end feature development with a focus on enabling new functionalities for Nokia Mobile Network's end users and operators.

The expectations and responsibilities in this position include: 

 

  • Ongoing university/poly-technical degree education in Telecommunications, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar disciplines 
  • Strong interest towards the Telecommunication area, radio networks, and 5G technologies 
  • Object oriented programming skills (C/C++) 
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies 
  • Language skills in English (written and spoken fluently) 

 

 

  It would be nice if you also had 

 

  • Knowledge of AI / ML
  • Python programming skills
  • Willingness for continuous learning and participation in all areas of the software development 
  • Readiness to seek and understand the end-to-end product functionality and customer view 
  • A positive mindset and thinking outside the box
