Overview
The BI Developer is a subject matter expert, an individual contributor responsible for designing and developing business intelligence reports and metrics to support strategic, operational, and resource allocation decisions across the company. The BI Developer will utilize tools such as Snowflake, Sigma, Power BI, Matillion, HVR, and Fivetran to deliver accurate, insightful, and visually compelling data reporting. This role reports directly to the Manager of Business Intelligence and will collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, Marketing, and Business Operations. The successful candidate will translate business inquiries into actionable reporting deliverables, drive automation and standardization, and contribute to high-value data initiatives across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the “Cavender’s Culture” and drive our Mission, Vision, and Values
- Partner with IT and business leaders to develop meaningful and impactful reporting metrics
- Translate stakeholder requests into scalable and actionable reporting deliverables
- Design and develop ad-hoc and standard reports for various business units
- Analyze user data requirements and automate repeatable processes to meet data needs
- Research and resolve reporting issues and discrepancies
- Ensure consistent, accurate, and high-quality data across systems and reports
- Prepare data visualizations including charts, graphs, heat maps, and process flow diagrams
- Collaborate across departments to manage and deliver on multiple concurrent projects
- Document technical and business reporting requirements and data workflows
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information and data access
- Validate data integrity with regular quality checks and system cross-validations
- Create reusable routines and dashboards in tools such as Power BI and Sigma
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to present findings and recommendations
- Perform other related duties as assigned by IT leadership
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a reporting and analysis environment
- Strong proficiency with BI tools such as Power BI, Sigma, and Snowflake
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT and data transformation tools such as Matillion, HVR, or similar platforms
- Proven experience with SQL and Microsoft Excel for report development and data analysis
- Ability to create a variety of report formats including dashboards, pivot tables, and paginated reports
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve business problems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Keen attention to detail and a high level of data accuracy
- Understanding of business operations, processes, and strategic objectives
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently
- Experience with project management methodologies and agile practices
- Based in Tyler, TX at our home office; must reside in the Tyler area
- Ability to travel up to 5%
