Riptide Technology has a great opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer - Database Engineer SQL Server - active TS/SCI clearance. This position will be based in Springfield, VA and the position is required to be onsite. This position will require U.S. Citizenship and an active DoD TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph. The Senior Systems Engineer— Database, or Database Engineer, is a member of a team of diverse, multi-disciplinary Information Technology (IT) Engineers responsible for tackling unique and complex challenges to achieve objectives tasked to the Activity's enterprise IT Systems Engineering and Architecture Services (SEAS) division in direct support of business and mission-focused needs. The Senior Systems Engineer primarily supports the System Engineering (SE) responsibilities of SEAS. The Database Engineer will provide SE knowledge, skills, abilities, standards, and best practices to implement modern and Next Generation (NexGen) IT solutions across a wide array of vendors and technologies surrounding database p3atforms, concepts, and functions. The Database Engineer also provides consulting services and escalated tiered support to the Activity's Enterprise IT O&M teams and provides mentorship and on the job training (OJT) to junior and/or lesser experienced personnel. The Database Engineer will also serve as an escalation tier to the O&M team's Database Administrators (DBAs) in matters of database technology, functionality, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA).
Responsibilities
- Providing guidance, support, technical assistance, and direction as needed to support distributed database administration where the database platforms demand high uptime and stability.
- Implementing, administering, monitoring, and utilizing database high availability (HA), resiliency, disaster recovery (DR), and continuity of operations (COOP) technologies; concepts, and functions.
- Managing, and maintaining solutions in classified processing environments which must adhere to U.S. Government Information Assurance and Security standards such as the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Requirements Guides (SRGs) and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Knowledge of user access management, password management, and compliance requirements.
- Performing database performance optimization tasks including query tuning involving query plan optimization, query rewrite, and index creation and design.
- Database solution performance monitoring, review, analysis, and tuning to ensure optimal functionality given the constraints of the prescribed platfotn environment.
- Leveraging and providing system engineering within an established System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) program.
- Capturing, analyzing, and decomposing stakeholder and/or product requirements in order to generate design solutions that will be implemented, tested, and eventually transitioned to the operational environment that acknowledge technical% compliance, schedules and cost constraint.
- Troubleshooting techniques, methodologies/ processes, and practices to quickly identify and assess an issue, develop the strategy to resolve the issue, implement the resolution, and restore the degraded entity to an operational state all while maintaining concern for the original configuration and the overall Information Security (INFOSEC) posture of the environment.
Qualifications
- Security Clearance - This position will require U.S. citizenship and an active DoD TS/SCI clearance, with a CI Poly preferred. The ability to obtain a CI poly is required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree from accredited University; OR meet Intermediate Level for SECNAV M-5239.2 compliance.
- Education / Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
- BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science; or
- CompTIA Security + certification
- Experience:
- Shall have 7 or more years of progressive hands-on experience employing systems engineering techniques, methodologies, processes, and practices to design, engineer, implement, test, secure, and deliver a variety of enterprise-grade relational and non-relational databases solutions such as: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, Oracle, and MongoDB across multi-platform (Microsoft, *nix, etc.) information systems.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following areas:
- Detailed understanding of internals associated with MariaDB/MySQL such as memory management, storage engines, etc., and HA solutions such as Galera Cluster, master. master Replication, and master-slave Replication.
- Detailed understanding and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server architectures, systems, sub-systems and components in highly available/highly transactional and OLAP implementations to include operations, upgrades and replatforming, clustering, Always-on Availability Groups (AA(Gs), synchronous and asynchronous replication, etc. Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or newer is highly desired.
- Database features and tools such as partitioning, compression, constraints, administrative views, event monitors, encryption, etc.
- Modern industry scripting languages such as T-SQLI Shell, Python, and/or PowerSheII, and/or automation tools to automate routine and complex, database tasks, processes, procedures, and operations 10 include implementations, configurations, configuration monitoring, upgrades; and migrations.
- Drafting and producing common SE products through-out the SDLC such as requirements, System Concepts, Project Plan, Concept of Operations Validation Plans, System and Subsystem Requirements, Verification Plan, Design Documents (high-level, system, subsystem, etc.), Deployment plans, ()&M Plans, and Retirement Plans.
- Providing mentorship and OJT to junior and/or lesser experienced team members.
- Distributed systems and cloud infrastructure concepts.
- Modern backup solutions La support (database level and object level backup, restore, and archive provider for content protection.
- Nutanix Era offerings and capabilities to develop, administer, and support Database as a Service (DBaaS) offering.
- Enterprise networking aspects and concepts as they pertain to SE processes.
- Commercial cloud concepts, technologies, and approaches would be a plus.
