Sr. Data Engineer (Data Pipelines, ETL and Cloud Services)

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to design and develop reliable and scalable data pipelines and platforms. This role is integral to our efforts in leveraging data to drive business success. The Sr. Data Engineer will contribute to strategic objectives by creating solutions that meet business requirements, providing technical leadership, and mentoring junior team members.

Software Requirements

  • Required Software Proficiency:

    • Enterprise BI/Big Data/DW/ETL technologies: Teradata, Hadoop, Tableau, SAS, Hyperion, Business Objects (Extensive experience)
    • Data modeling patterns (Strong knowledge)
    • Ab Initio, Snowflake, AWS/Cloud Services (Experience)
  • Preferred Software Skills:

    • Familiarity with additional cloud services and data integration tools

Overall Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable data pipelines and platforms with comprehensive test coverage.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements and translate them into technical implementations.
  • Drive opportunities for continuous improvement in team processes and product delivery.
  • Mentor junior Data Engineers, providing guidance and technical assistance.
  • Produce high-quality, sustainable solutions aligned with industry best practices.
  • Provide technical governance to ensure successful delivery and adoption of data products.
  • Deliver solutions focused on data design, preparation, transformation, and load.
  • Implement data pipelines in distributed data platforms including warehouses, databases, data lakes, and cloud lakehouses.
  • Enable data predictions, models, reporting, and visualization analysis.

Technical Skills (By Category)

  • Programming Languages:

    • Required: Proficiency in SQL and other data query languages
  • Databases/Data Management:

    • Required: Experience with Teradata, Hadoop, Snowflake
    • Preferred: Experience with Oracle, SQL Server
  • Cloud Technologies:

    • Required: AWS/Cloud Services
  • Frameworks and Libraries:

    • Required: Ab Initio, SAS, Hyperion
  • Development Tools and Methodologies:

    • Required: Agile methodologies
    • Preferred: Experience with additional data integration tools

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience in large enterprise environments handling large datasets with high service level agreements.
  • 7+ years of experience in financial institutions or insurance providers is desirable.
  • Experience within a Data Delivery Life Cycle framework.
  • Proven ability to lead discussions and drive decisions across stakeholder groups.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into technical implementations.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and drive initiatives.
  • Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance.
  • Ensure solutions meet business requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical governance to ensure successful delivery and adoption of data products.
  • Build and implement data pipelines in distributed data platforms.
  • Enable data predictions, models, reporting, and visualization analysis.
  • Contribute to domain planning and align technical deliveries with engineering strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in data engineering or cloud technologies are a plus.
