Enterprise Business Services @ IDC Bangalore and Chennai in India are focused on data driven, highly optimized products and implementations in the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and Retail business functions for multiple Walmart markets with open stack technologies and other ERP tools.

About the Role

We’re seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal Engineer with deep full stack expertise and a strong background in cloud-native development on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is pivotal in shaping our engineering direction, driving architectural decisions, mentoring senior engineers, and ensuring we deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across our platform.

You will work across the stack from crafting frontend experiences to building robust backend APIs and designing cloud infrastructure and play a critical role in influencing technical vision, driving innovation, and aligning engineering efforts with business goals.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of end-to-end full stack applications with high scalability and resilience.
  • Architect complex cloud-native systems leveraging the full suite of GCP services.
  • Set technical direction, define best practices, and drive engineering excellence across teams.
  • Build and optimize APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL) and frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js).
  • Guide adoption of serverless and container-based architectures using Cloud Run, GKE, and Cloud Functions.
  • Champion CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform or Deployment Manager.
  • Drive code quality through rigorous design reviews, mentoring, and automated testing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable tech solutions.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor and mentor to Staff and Senior Engineers.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and evaluate new tools and frameworks that enhance productivity and performance.

What you will bring

  • 10+ years of experience in full stack development, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership or principal engineering role.
  • Deep proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Go.
  • Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks—React preferred.
  • Expertise in designing and operating cloud-native systems on GCP.
  • Proficiency with microservices architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven systems.
  • Extensive experience in CI/CD, DevOps practices, and managing production-grade cloud systems.
  • Proven experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., BigQuery, PostgreSQL, Firestore).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • GCP Professional Certification (Cloud Architect, Developer, or Data Engineer).
  • Experience with serverless platforms (Cloud Functions, Firebase, etc.).
  • Familiarity with observability tools.
  • Exposure to large-scale data processing pipelines or ML workflows on GCP.
