Software Engineer, CVML Efficiency and Systems - Decoder Systems (Codec Avatars)

Meta's Reality Labs is working to bring people together through advanced Augmented and Virtual reality products. With a focus on research and development in areas like computer vision, machine learning, and haptics, RL is committed to driving innovation forward. The potential for AR/VR to change the way we interact with each other is immense.

As a CV/ML engineer, you will be responsible for understanding and improving Codec Avatar Machine Learning (ML) pipelines (training, inference, visualization and evaluation), partnering closely with research scientists and engineers across a large organization to translate cutting edge research software, algorithms and models into product-ready features.

The kind of pipelines we work on include Sapiens (State of the Art for human-centric tasks) and various unpublished and unshipped SOTA research pipelines to do with Codec (i.e. hyperrealistic ) avatars.Software Engineer, CVML Efficiency and Systems - Decoder Systems (Codec Avatars) Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research scientists and research engineers to understand, debug and improve ML training, inference, visualization and evaluation pipelines to ensure that research is translated quickly and reliably into product-ready code and features
  • Understand and profiling the performance of complete ML pipelines including putting in place software features and processes that will help improve performance (checking pointing, better dataloading etc) including tooling to catch performance regressions
  • Help build software with well designed APIs to ensure reliable ML pipeline operation from data to training to evaluation to shipping, including understanding the underlying algorithms, model architectures and various nuances about data quality and how it affects training and evaluation
  • Work with our partners in Company-wide efficiency teams, across production and research clusters, on joint projects to measure and improve ML performance across a wide fleet of compute nodes
  • Develop well-organized code, proper testing and documentation, and building on top of existing code or building new solutions from scratch as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Proven experience with Python, including experience with modern features
  • Track record of delivering research software into production
  • Expertise in Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively on a shared codebase
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in the following fields: Computer Science, Computer Vision, or Machine Learning or Robotics
  • Familiarity with ML pipeline optimization such as improving dataloading speeds
  • Familiarity with low-level GPU-based optimizations
  • Experience working with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
