Data Analyst

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking a dynamic and multi-skilled candidate to join its headquarters in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka, as a Data Analyst.

The Data Analyst will support and enhance data processes across IWMI’s corporate systems, with a focus on data integrity, governance, visualization using Microsoft Power BI, and support for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system data migration initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure data integrity across various application platforms, including the ERP system, by implementing and monitoring quality controls.
  • Conduct regular data analysis to identify quality issues and implement corrective measures to maintain high data standards.
  • Assist in data cleansing and reconciliation activities to ensure consistency and accuracy across multiple systems.
  • Support departments in the adoption and implementation of data governance best practices.
  • Collaborate with teams to implement data governance tools and deploy technology solutions that strengthen data management.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of the new ERP system by leading master data cleansing and migration efforts.
  • Execute data Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes from the existing ERP system to the new platform to ensure smooth data transition.
  • Recommend and implement efficient data collection, cleansing, and maintenance methods, such as standardized templates, to facilitate integration and migration.
  • Analyze complex datasets to generate actionable insights and develop compelling visualizations using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards tailored to specific reporting and management requirements.
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of data management processes to support transparency, continuity, and knowledge sharing.
  • Train and support staff on data tools, governance protocols, and the use of the new ERP system to enhance organizational data management capacity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and deliver data-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency and support strategic objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential,

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent professional qualification in business, computer science, information systems, Data Analytics or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining data integration solutions for complex business systems.
  • Hands-on experience with financial and ERP systems, with a strong understanding of data flows and architecture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in data cleansing and performing quality assurance checks on data sets.

Desirable

  • Prior experience with data migration tools and methodologies.
  • Experience in writing, executing, and automating test plans, test cases, and test scripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential,

  • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Power BI & Microsoft 365 Suite.
  • Strong proficiency in data cleansing, preparation, analysis, and exploration.
  • Solid understanding of data visualization techniques.
  • Proven project management capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate between external consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player with cross-departmental coordination experience
  • Proficient in managing online meetings using Microsoft Teams.
  • Skilled at handling multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines efficiently
  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach with respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Excellent oral and written language skills in English including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities coupled with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Desirable,

  • Hands-on expertise with SAP HANA.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Sri Lankan nationals will be considered. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, inclusive of health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability coverage. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
