About Growth Engineering

Growth Engineering powers Coupang’s customer acquisition and retention through data and ML-driven marketing systems. Our scope spans Onsite and Offsite channels, Marketing Core Platform (MCP), and the Marketing Data Service (MDS). We are building intelligent infrastructure and systems to drive targeting, personalization, performance optimization, attribution, and automation at scale.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer (L7-2) to lead architecture, platformization, and innovation across our Growth Engineering stack. This role will drive end-to-end strategy and execution of ML-powered systems, working at the intersection of data, infrastructure, and marketing effectiveness.

You will partner with engineering leaders, data scientists, and product stakeholders to unlock new capabilities across Onsite and Offsite channels, standardize foundational ML systems, and design scalable platforms that power long-term growth.

Key Opportunities for Impact

As part of this role, you will be expected to lead initiatives that address major technical and business opportunities, including:

  1. Unified Experimentation Infrastructure: Design scalable, reliable systems for lift testing, geo-experiments, and attribution pipelines to accelerate campaign impact measurement across channels.
  2. Real-Time ML Signal & Feature Serving Platform: Build low-latency data systems and streaming features to support real-time personalization, ad decisioning, and dynamic targeting.
  3. ML-Based Budget & Bid Optimization Engine: Centralize and automate budget pacing and bidding strategies with ML-driven optimization frameworks to improve ROAS across Offsite Ads (Search, Display, Affiliate).
  4. Creative Intelligence & Marketing Catalog Platform: Develop intelligent feedback loops for creative performance, template ranking, and product catalog enrichment to optimize both Onsite landing and Offsite ad delivery.
  5. Multi-Region ML & Marketing Infrastructure: Architect globally scalable systems that support regional targeting, latency-aware serving, and compliance to accelerate international growth.
  6. ML Platformization Across Growth Org: Drive standardization across the model lifecycle (training, serving, evaluation, monitoring) and promote reusability of ML infrastructure across Onsite, Offsite, MCP, and MDS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design and execution of high-scale ML and data systems across real-time, batch, and nearline workloads.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to convert business strategy into scalable systems.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of services, from design and development to operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers and set high technical standards for platform quality, ML reliability, and growth impact.
  • Serve as a technical thought leader, influencing architecture and product decisions across teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in backend, data infrastructure, or ML systems.
  • 4-5+ years working with ML/AI in production—preferably in Ads, Growth, or Recommender systems.
  • Strong foundation in distributed systems, data streaming, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Deep experience with ML or data stacks (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka, Feature Stores, MLOps).
  • Excellent coding and system design skills (Java, Go, Scala, Python, or similar).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-team efforts and deliver high-impact technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven success scaling marketing ML systems globally.
  • Background in Ads Tech, Performance Marketing, or Personalization.
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Systems, or related technical field.
