The Health and Civil Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Research Engineer to work within the Warfighter Performance Department at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. The Research Engineer will be expected to work cohesively with intramural and extramural collaborators.
Are you ready for unique and exciting work?This position will be responsible for conducting research, managing large amounts of data, and analyzing data for the purposes of research and providing helpful feedback on the interpretation of the data. Additionally, it will require working independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments and assisting other technical staff with tasks and assignments. Current research focuses include physical and physiological performance but may also include psychological and nutritional aspects of performance in the future.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct data collection on human subjects in laboratory and field settings using best practices and abiding by human research protections regulations.
Operate and maintain testing equipment and provide technical expertise. Experience with tools and technologies include but are not limited to: inertial measurement units (IMU), motion capture, and force/strain transducers.
Create and manage databases with proper coding and commenting techniques.
Create and manage database and coding interfaces for non-technical staff to interact with data collection devices and/or technologies that would otherwise require computer programming skills.
Advance current skills in literature reviews and scientific/technical writing.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required for the customer research mission.
Comply with all required Leidos and Government requirements
Effectively and efficiently respond to urgent inquiries and requests.
Work overnights, on weekends, and holidays as needed for research project execution.
Travel domestically and internationally as required for project, program, and contract needs.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science, or a related scientific field from an accredited college or university.
Completion of the following coursework: calculus, physics, physiology or human biology, statics, and dynamics. Note, a university resume will be required prior to a job offer being made.
Ability to manage, summarize, and perform complex mathematical computations on large amounts of diverse data types without MS Office.
Experience in programming with one or more of the following languages: Python, MATLAB, or similar.
Professional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to acquire and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Flexibility in responding to changing demands, timelines, and ability to independently prioritize tasking.
Ability to travel (both domestically and overseas) up to 25%.
Ability to work non-regular hours (e.g., nights and weekends, holidays) as needed for data collection or other project and program needs.
US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Active SECRET security clearance.
Experience working in a research setting with military populations.
