Overview

Applied Material’s is currently seeking an Import/Export Trade Intern located at our Austin Texas location. This position is part of our Legal and Compliance Organization.

As an Import/Export Trade Intern, you will be part of Applied’s Global Trade Operations team with the key responsibility to ensure Applied’s US business operations are conducted in compliance with customs regulations and export control laws in the most efficient and effective way possible. You will actively participate in the execution of import and export operations and the development of process improvements aimed to achieve operational excellence.

The Import/Export Trade Intern works collaboratively with all lines of business, purchasing, logistics, service providers, suppliers, customs brokers, and government agencies to ensure compliance for the Company’s import and export transactions. This position provides opportunities to increase knowledge base of U.S. import/export laws and regulations.

In this role, you will report to the Global Trade Operations Senior Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring import and export activities comply with government laws and regulations. The laws and regulations include but are not limited to: Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). This includes the import and export of products, services, transfer of technical data, and all other trade operations matters.
  • Interacting regularly with and providing operational support and guidance including import clearance and export declaration compliance matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Define, enable, run and operate processes and systems as related to customs and export control.
  • Establish and maintain operational compliance procedures and customs manual to ensure full compliance of the regulations governing the movement of goods and technology.
  • Develop trade operations best practices and educate internal stakeholders.
  • Perform internal self-assessments to ensure trade compliance activities are executed properly.
  • Develop processes, controls, record keeping and any audit preparation regarding import entry and export declarations.
  • Monitor compliance and performance of external service providers and participate in service review meetings and evaluate quality levels.
  • Work with customs broker to assist in import clearance issues, perform post-entry amendments, and fulfill PGA licensing requirements per policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, determine available options for improvement and make recommendations for improvements to management.
  • Identify process gaps/inefficiencies/improvements and implement solutions as aligned with management.
  • Resolve import and export shipment issues working with internal and third parties such as freight forwarders, customs brokers and government agencies and possess the ability to determine when to escalate to management for resolution.
  • Gather and coordinate information for annual submission to CBP for CTPAT Trade Compliance (ISA) and Reconciliation.
  • Assist in the processing of Free Trade Agreement ‘Certificates of Origin’ for products/parts eligible for duty free status and support the duty drawback program.

Requirements

  • ·Student must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree program or higher in a related field and returning to their studies upon completion of internship.
  • Student must be available to start May/June and end their 12 weeks ~Aug/Sept
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify patterns and trends.
  • Proficient in excel, data analytics and visualization.
  • Well-developed organizational, priority management and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer focus with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Keen attention to details and accurate in execution of any task.
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams and international environment.
  • Exhibits a high level of integrity and discretion.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
